Fantastic Deal on Kool-Aid at Giant Eagle Starting 9/20! Bonus Unadvertised Catalina!

When I was doing my weekly grocery ad read-through and found GE’s Kool-Aid deal (20 packets for $2.50), I immediately planned to stock up because our supplies were low and I had a nice stockpile of sugar in the pantry from the great sales that were available over the past few weeks.

What the ad FAILED to mention was that there is an unadvertised Catalina deal that made my Kool-Aid purchase so much sweeter my teeth hurt…

If you buy 21 (not 20) packets, and pay the extra 15 cents, you’ll receive a Catalina coupon back at the register for $2 off your next purchase.

That works out to be about 3 cents per packet. Combine that with the inexpensive sugar you’ve hopefully put in your stockpile, and say bu-bye to shelling out wads of dough for overpriced drinks around the house.

$5 off Pictionary Game Printable Coupon…Start Your Gift Closet for Next Christmas Now!!

Check under zipcode 60712, and you can find a coupon for $5 off any Pictionary Game! This is perfect for my New Year’s resolution…to Christmas shop all year long, as I find awesome deals to add to my “gift” closet, so I can enjoy the Holiday season this time instead of stressing-out last minute about what gifts I do and don’t have!!

Games are always a good bet…they’re bound to fit the bill for someone on your list! My sister and I love giving each other board games for Christmas/birthdays and then playing them that same day to add a little more fun to the festivities!

Pictionary is also a sure winner for any child that loves drawing or art.

Or just buy this for you and your honey to have a good old-fashioned game night with some friends, a bottle of Pinot, and a nice Paella this Friday night!!

And since this is an oldie but goodie, it can often be found at discount stores (such as Dollar General) that accept coupons, so you can probably snag it for a song if your timing is right!!

Give my New Year’s resolution a try and see how quickly you can build up a stockpile of affordable and awesome gifts this year! I’ll be letting you in on any great deals that I find along the way…

Shop ‘n Save Pittsburgh Area Coupon Matchups 9/22…Stockpile Some Angel Soft TP, Planter’s Peanut Butter, Bird’s Eye Vegetables and More…Plus get FREE (or almost free) MEAT when you buy Velveeta Cheesy Skillets (for only $1!)

Not a TON of awesome deals this week, but I’m really excited about the few great deals there are! Not only can I stock up on some super-cheap butt-wipin’ via a sweet Angel Soft promotion, but I have yet another chance at redemption with the Planter’s Peanut Butter Coupon That Got Away. I HAVE NOT been able to find this product stocked in a single store I frequent (and I frequent A LOT of them) in over a month because of this danged 75 cents off coupon. People are apparently tearing it off the shelves the minute the poor stock boys arrange it in neat little lines. This may be my week to get my hands on a jar or two!! I’ve put in my time, dammit!!  There is also a great deal this week with Velveeta Cheesy Skillets...you can get them for only $1, and save $2 off your meat purchase. GASP!! And get cheap Birds Eye frozen veggies with a little help from my (Facebook) friends…get your fiber AND help a worth cause!! All this and more this week at Shop ‘n Save…

Remember: Become familiar with your local Shop ‘n Save’s coupon policies! They can vary greatly because these stores are all independently owned and managed! What you can usually count on:

  • Double coupons up to 99 cents
  • DOES NOT double internet coupons (I have had some readers tell me their store does not even TAKE internet coupons. Period.)
  • Usually a limit on how many “like” coupons you can use (my store has a limit of 4)
  • Does not accept BOGO internet coupons, or internet coupons above a certain dollar amount (usually $3 or $4 being the highest, depending on the store) Note: Some of my readers have recently reported that their local Shop ‘n Save does indeed double internet coupons…if yours does please leave me a comment on this post so I can compile a list for everyone!

That being said, I have heard they are trying to become more competitive in their policies, so maybe the evil, unnecessary restrictions against poor, defenseless internet coupons will change soon. Let’s all cross our fingers!

My Favorite Deals This Week

  • Birds Eye Vegetables (16 oz bag, selected varieties) are 10/$10…click here to get a Facebook coupon (print limit of 2) for $1/2 Birds Eye Veggies, making these only 50 cents each! You will have to “drag and drop” some food groups onto a virtual plate (kinda took me back to Elementary School…you’ll see what I mean when you get there!) to get the coupons, but they are also donating food to a worthy cause each time you do, so upload a photo or make your virtual meal in good spirits!
  • Eckrich Smoked Sausage or Kelbasa is BOGO this week…use 2 of the 55 cents/1 Eckrich Smoked Sausage from the 8/28 SmartSource to get them for only $1.25 each when you buy two! Add this to the 50 cents Zatarain’s you hopefully picked up from Giant Eagle last week for a supper yummy, awesomely inexpensive, and very quick meal!
  • Planter’s Peanut Butter is once again on sale, this time 2/$5. Use those 75 cents/1 Planters Peanut Butter Coupons from the 8/21 SmartSource (I still have mine…I have not been able to find this product in stock in any store since this coupon came out!!!) and HOPEFULLY get it for $1 per jar. Act quickly!! You will also get an instant savings of $1 on Ritz or Premium Saltine Crackers when you purchase 1 Planter’s Peanut Butter.
  • Here’s a great deal…Kraft Velveeta Cheesy Skillets Dinners are 2/$4save $2 instantly off your meat purchase when you buy 2. Use the $1/1 Velveeta Cheesy Skillets coupon from the 8/21 SmartSource, and snag these up for $1 each, plus get the hefty discount on any meat you are buying! (I would imaging this applies to ground meat, chicken or tuna, much like the Giant Eagle Hamburger Helpers do…but Shop ‘n Save is a different store entirely, so I could be wrong!)
  • Need cleaning products? Fantastik cleaners are 2/$5, and you save $2 instantly when you buy four of these babies. Simply use 4 of the 75 cents/1 Fantastik Cleaner coupons from the 9/25 SmartSource, and end up getting these for 50 cents each when you buy four.
  • Angel Soft Bath Tissue (12 ct double rolls or 24 ct single rolls) are 2/$11, plus save $3 on your next purchase when you buy two. Use 2 of the coupons from the 8/14 RedPlum insert (either $1/2 or 50 cents/1, depending on your region), and snag these super-size TP stock-ups for only $3 to $3.50 each!! Get Wipin’!!

And a Few Good Loss Leaders…

  • Seedless Grapes (red, black or green) are 99 cents/lb
  • Boneless Sirloin Tip Roasts are BOGO
  • Gold Kist Boneless, Skinless Chicken Breast packages are BOGO
  • Wonder Soft 100% Wheat Bread is BOGO

As usual, feel free to comment below and add any deals you’ve found! If I find anything else on my shopping trips, I will be back with another Shop ‘n Save post for the week!

And please, feel free to let us all know about the coupon policies of your local Shop ‘n Save!! Help me compile a list of store policies that I can post on the site to help other shoppers!!

How I Pay for My Groceries and Stockpile for The Future With My Pocket Change Each Week…$31.44 Bought All This!

Thanks quarters, dimes, nickels and pennies!!

Although I enjoy cooking from scratch a good percentage of the time (maybe it’s just that cute retro apron from Anthropologie that I bought for myself on clearance last Christmas…), Giant Eagle and Shop ‘n Save were having some FANTASTIC stockpile deals on some semi-convenience foods this week, so I took the opportunity to buy enough to more than fill the cupboards. Awesome promotions, free meat Catalina coupons at checkout, and clipped coupons from the paper all converging together to bring prices down to over 85% off? Who could resist?? Now Mike and I are SO thoroughly prepared for any lazy cooking days I might have, that we may have to be lazy more often to make room in the cabinets again!

Anyway, the Coinstar machine only gave me $24.83 to work with after I fed it all my loose change collected over the past week…here’s what I managed to buy with that!

  • 15 Hamburger/Tuna/Chicken helpers in various flavors
  • 6 Betty Crocker Potato Sides (Au Gratin, Scalloped, Julienne…in various flavors)
  • 8 Zatarain’s Rice Mixes (Jambalaya, Dirty Rice, Black Beans and Rice…I like to add smoked sausage/chicken/shrimp to these for a quick meal when I don’t feel like making it from scratch…I LOVE Cajun/Creole cooking, and I swear the flavor can’t be beat for a boxed mix!)
  • 2 Betty Crocker Supreme Brownie Mixes (chocolate chunk and frosted)
  • 2 boxes of San Giorgio Linguine (plan on making some kick-butt Cajun Chicken Alfredo Pasta)
  • 4 jars of Ragu sauce (Marinara, 4 Cheese Marinara, Alfredo and Cheese Sauce)
  • 1 packet of Sun Bird’s General Tso’s Seasoning Mix (one of our favorites…fast, simple, delicious)
  • 1 box of Chicken Patties
  • 1 loaf of Giant Eagle brand bread
  • 1 lb of ground pork
  • 2 lbs of ground chuck
  • 2 Soft Soap foaming hand soaps
  • 1 bag of Fresh Step kitty litter (for stinky Joey!)
  • 1 can Campbell’s Nacho Cheese Soup (for cooking)
  • 4 rolls of toilet paper (would’ve bought more, but that’s enough to get us through the week until a better coupon+sale deal comes around)

Again, I stocked up on some frozen veggies last week when they were on sale, and the rest of my fresh veggies/fruit comes from friend’s gardens.

So the retail value of all this (and I lost my receipt, so I’ll have to guesstimate!) would be around: $107.17

I spent: $31.44 ($6.61 over my spare change budget)

Pretty close to a 75% savings! Not too bad…
